The RFP for academic year 2024-2025 project activities (Cohort 2) Is currently Closed.

Next cycle will open Fall 2024.

NICHE Medical supports medical schools to implement curriculum about health care for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) through a multi-year partnership between the AADMD and Elevance Health.

If you have any questions about this NICHE Medical application or the application process, please email our NICHE Medical Team at niche-med@aadmd.org.

The Goal of NICHE Medical is…

to provide training to medical students in the field of developmental medicine & inspire a medical career focused on individuals with IDD across the lifespan.

The project aims to:

  • Impact medical students’ attitudes, knowledge, and/or skills to address underlying ableism and address how future physicians think about disability

  • Apply a lens of health equity and intersectionality, centering people with IDD, but fostering conversation and learning about issues faced by other disability and minoritized populations

We will award Medical School Partners a $15,000 grant to implement curriculum enhancements that address gaps in medical education regarding patients with IDD.  AADMD believes it is essential to include self-advocates with IDD in curriculum efforts. Schools should be prepared to work with community partner(s) to ensure meaningful inclusion of self-advocates in curriculum development and delivery.

Medical School Partners will get access to resources and technical assistance from AADMD to ensure project success.
