Review and Update of Reno Meeting
To the board's knowledge, the applications which still outstanding were: Laura Conlin, Hank Chambers and Dr Wilkins( we were assured by Rick that Dr Wilkin's application was on the way). Adadot Hayes agreed to give the Steve Zelinski memorial lecture. The AADMD Board Meeting was scheduled for Friday and the Pre-Conference (which is on medication administration) is scheduled for Saturday and a cocktail party Saturday night..The board members were enthusiastic about including Nancy Thaler, the current Director of the National Association of State Directors of State Disability Services as a speaker as well as Bob Gettings(her predecessor), although he charges a large honorarium. David Fray recommended seeking support from a wheelchair company (Versatilt). Seth Keller met with Bob Gettings and Nancy Weiss. The AADMD wanted to have a full meeting of the membership but the meeting has not been scheduled yet. Matt Holder is actively working with The University of Louisville to obtain CME credits for the speakers There was considerable enthusiasm for a panel discussion about a community care plan for the DD population which would include AADMD and DDNA representitives.Dr Fray has had considerable experience with community care in Hawaii.Diane Moore will send a list of the speakers who have already sent in their applications.
Membership and Website Concerns
There have been five new members during the past montemail feature which will include short summaries of recent articles relate to the ID/DD population. This will eventually evolve into a newsletter. This will replace the Quarterly. The logistics of placing it on the website will be discussed with Bruce Kelly.
When the AADMD was founded, an advisory board was created. In the opinion of the majority of the Board, the advisory board had no specific role. There was enthusiasm on the part of the majority of the Board that the Advisory Board be recreated with a specific role to play. Tim Shriver (President of the Special Olympics) and Steve Corbin(Dean of th Special Olympics Universty) would be particularly important members since health is high on the agenda of SOI and this is a period of radical change in helth care delivery.
The Interagency Advisory Council
Jim Powell gave a brief description of the Interagency Advisory Council. This group is composed of Medical and Executive Directors of facililities for the DD population in the New York area. These facilities serve approximately 90,000 patients. They are holding a meeting in the fall and there might be an opportunity for representitives from the AADMD to attend and develop a liason.

Board Members Present: Henry Hood,h.Ned Rapp and hopefully Barry Waldman plan to develop a monthly
Finances and The State Of the Wamart Grant
Matt Holder feels optimistic about the Walmart grant which he is currently putting the final touches on. The grant would be $100,000 and would be for curriculum development.
Creation of an Advisory Board
Matt Holder(ex-officio), Carlton Horbelt, Rick Rader, Bruce Kelly,Adadot Hayes, Alan Wong, Seth Keller, Diane Moore(DDNA representitive)
The meeting was called to order at 6pm by President Henry Hood
The agenda was as follows:
Joint Meeting with the DDNA(represented by Diane Moore)
1.) Report/discussion of ICFMR/MR initiative
Diane Moore will be attending a meeting sponsored by CMS(the Center for Medicaire and Medicaid Services), the purpose of which will be to revamp CMS standards for ICFMRS. As far as Diane knows at this point, the only medical expert in attendence will be Dr Marc Levey, a pediatric neurologist from Kennedy Krieger Institute, although the CMS intends to include experts from other areas. The Board felt very strongly that a community physician with experience in ICFMRS should be included in the meeting
2.) Report/Discussion of Establishing a Family Advocacy Board
Discussion of this issue will be tabled until the next meeting.
AADMD Executive Board Meeting(Dianne Moore was presentduring this discussion)
1.) Actions Related to the Medically Underserved Population
The binder related to this problem has been completed and sent to Nancy Thaler, the Chief Executive Officer of the National Association of State Directors of State Developmental Disabilities Matt Holder submitted a petition to HIRSA but has not received a response. George Jesien Director of the Association of University Centers on Disabilities, has expressed a desire to become involved infurther discussions with the AADMD, so the "ball is in our court "as far as iniating these discussions.Steve Perlman intends to talk to Connie Gardner, a congressional staffer with an interest in the medically underserved. The Board felt there was more than adequate evidence for designating the ID/DD population underserved although there are apparently individuals who might declare they were medically underserved who actually were not and this would add to the budget if such a declaration were approved.in the opinion of some.
2.) Education
The board felt that it was important to include audience participation during discussions at the Annual Meeting, but this might be somewhat difficult to due to the size of the audience and further discussion will have to be undertaken on this matter. A list of well qualified speakers has been assembled by the Education Committee of the AADMD which has been submitted to the DDNA. It was emphasized that the speakers proposals should be submitted by October 1 and they will be informed as to whether they have been accepted by October 15. Both the DDNA and AADMD are short of funds at this time and active efforts will have to undertake to raise money. The AADMD has attempted to recruit speakers who will speak without honorariums, but it would be difficult to attract speakers without paying travel expenses and two nights of lodging as well as the registration fee. A concern was expressed by the board that a potentially awkward situation might arise if we recruited speakers and then had to reject them (secretarys suggestion-perhaps we could periodically go over the list of invitees during the education meetings with Mary Alice present so this does not occur)
3.) Membership and Website Update
The website is nearly complete except for some minimal pruning. The blackboard will allow better communication and stimulate questions.
Bruce Kelly and Matt Holder are in the process of sending out letters to those who have not payed dues.
4.) Miscellaneous
Dianne Moore suggested that the DDNA's affiliation with the AADMD be highlighted on the AADMD website, preferably on the front page.
Matt Holder and Bruce Kelly have completed a grant request for $100,000 from the Walmart Foundation and Matt feels we have a very good chance of receiving it.
The next meeting will be scheduled for Wednesday, August 19 at 6 pm. I will be out of the country from August 16 until September 2, so please forward all agenda requests to me before August 14 and I will then forward them to Henry Hood.
The meeting was adjourned by President Henry Hood at 7:30 pm.
Respectfully submitted, August 20, 2009
Ned Rapp MD
Secretary, AADMD
