Vice President’s Letter

The AADMD “Education Division” continues to focus on provision of educational initiatives which hopefully will have the effect of enhancing clinical skills of physicians and dentists regarding evaluation and management of those complex health conditions that frequently occur in our patients with developmental disabilities (or as I prefer, “neurodevelopmental disorders”).

In addition to our usual monthly EP/AADMD Reviews & Reports, we have been busy participating with EP in the production of various online seminars. Very recently we have developed a collaboration with the Developmental Disabilities Nurses Association (DDNA). The AADMD will serve as a joint sponsor with the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine to produce a Continuing Medical Education Program to be offered at the combined DDNA/AADMD annual meeting in Foxwood, Connecticut in June of 2008.

We are also exploring the possibility of expanding our online presentation capacity in partnership with the DDNA and will be reaching out to the AADMD and DDNA memberships for advice, assistance, and participation.

Lastly, I want to extend an invitation to all AADMD members who are interested in “DD” education to participate in our weekly online “Education Committee” meetings. All you need is a computer, a webcam, and a headset and you will be good-to-go. Just send me an email at maypb@umdnj.edu or phone call at 908 730-5707, indicating your interest and I will fill you in on the details.

Hope to see you all in Foxwood, Connecticut in June 2008 for our annual meeting.

Dr. Philip May has served as Vice President for Education and Research since September 2006 and will continue to serve in this capacity for the remainder of his two-year term. Dr. May also serves as Assistant Medical Director of the Hunterdon Developmental Center in Clinton, New Jersey.
